The Viaje Satori Karma is another Limited Edition blend from the small batch masters at Viaje. This Nicaraguan puro features a dark oscuro wrapper. Satori means “sudden spiritual enlightenment” in Japanese. The Satori will be released every year unlike other Viaje limited releases such as the Skull and Bones or their Holiday releases. There have only been 150 – 25 count boxes released in each of the 3 vitolas.
The wrapper on this Viaje Satori is a very dark brown, almost black like oscuro wrapper. The cigar itself seems rather firm on all sides with no soft spots.
The prelight draw tastes of spicy, leather, and has a heavy tobacco flavoring to it, it reminds me of the dark black pipe tobacco my friend's dad smoked when I was a kid. The 1st third is meaty, peppery, and leathery. In essence, it's like chewing on a piece of peppered beef jerky. It can be a bit overwhelming even for experienced full flavored smokers but sit it out, the flavors settle some. The 2nd third and 3rd third are more of the same just muted flavors. Towards the end the flavors pick up a bit again but the flavors just don't evolve much.
If you like flavor bombs that lack complexity, the Viaje Satori is for you. Perhaps you have a short attention span and don't like to hunt for each and every flavor present in a cigar. If you are a straightforward kind of person, this is the cigar for you.
