With the rise of the craft beer culture, it was only natural that cigars like the Quesada Holiday Keg would bubble to the top. Blended to accompany a creamy and rich Irish Stout, these delightful sticks are of course excellent smokes in their own right. There’s no reason to expect otherwise from the family owned boutique Quesada factory responsible for many of your favorites such as Casa Magna and Fonseca. Here, a premium brew of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos compete for prominence beneath a pair of expertly fermented Dominican leaves; one spicy and sweet as a binder, the other a sultry and robust Corojo for the wrapper.
A rugged Toro with plenty of oily shine beneath the red and gold band, the Quesada Holiday Keg exudes a sweet aroma and a cold draw full of cocoa. Aflame, the slowly smoldering barrel begins with a medium bodied flow of charred cedar and dark chocolate. Each steady pull carries the smoker further and further into a state of satisfaction, where the flavors bottled within each stick are slowly released at just the right time. Some licorice and vanilla near the beginning give way to caramel and roasted malt during the second third, which in turn leads to a medium-full finale of molasses, black coffee, and nutmeg.
Packed 10 apiece into little barrel-shaped boxes guaranteed not to fit into your humidor, you will still want one to store all the cool swag you will collect during that St. Patrick’s Day or another special party. Priced to share, it is a good idea to hide some away from prying leprechauns to ensure enough to last you until next year. For a truly unique treat pair with a hefty pour of Irish Whiskey, which releases a subtle extra sweetness to both. It’s magically delicious.
