Kristoff Maduro Robusto Cigars
Known mostly for their spicy and full-bodied smokes, Kristoff Maduro Robusto is a wonderful variation. Made in the Dominican Republic with a wonderful blend of well-aged Dominican and Nicaraguan long-filler and a Dominican Binder, the key to this cigar’s flavor is a super dark and oily Brazilian maduro wrapper. With the same tight pigtail on the cap and unfinished foot found on many other Kristoff cigars, the Maduro has the same construction and which fans of the brand have come to expect. Despite the rich maduro wrapper, this stick is just a hair above a medium body.
As with all Kristoff cigars, the 5 1/2 " x 54 Maduro Robusto has a very understated band but due to the dark nature of the wrapper, this one does not blend in. Pre-light inspection revealed a flawless wrapper that appeared almost seamless. A densely packed cigar, there was a sweet almost chocolaty aroma before lit. After the first few draws, which were effortless, this sweet flavor continued and mixed with a slightly bitter espresso note. From foot to nub, this smoked easily and straight with the same flavor profile carried right through to the end.
The Kristoff Maduro Robusto offers a refreshing departure from the brand's other cigar offerings. Its subtle sweetness is a delightful enhancement, never overwhelming the palate. The harmonious blend of chocolate and coffee notes makes it a perfect companion to an after-dinner drink like Sambuca.
