With the wild, and well deserved, success of the Illusione Rothschildes, Dion set out to make a larger more full bodied version. The Gigante was born and should be even more popular than its smaller brethren. Measuring in at 6 1/2 x 56, the Gigante has the same San Andres Mexican maduro wrapper and dual Criollo 98 and Corojo 99 binders and is filled with an amazing blend of Nicaraguan Aganorsa long leaf tobacco. Just like the Rothschildes, this is available in chests of 50, but after smoking one you may think that 50 is not enough to have on hand.
Following the same vintage feel of the band, the Illusione Gigante has a purple motif and really looks striking against the almost black wrapper. Sweetness and power come through with the initial pulls, and continues the length of the cigar. Right from the beginning, the big bold flavors of the this cigar will take hold of your palate. A nuttiness perfectly meshes with a raisin-like sweetness. Despite the heavy hand of Nicaraguan tobacco, the spice of this cigar never overwhelms all the other wonderful flavors. The more you smoke the more the spice comes into play though and it crests in the final third of the cigar.
The Illusione Gigante follows the Rothschilde in release of more budget friendly smokes from the premium cigar maker. Don’t let the under ten dollar price tag fool you though, this smoke can match up with some of the higher priced offerings from Dion and the people at Illusione. The amazing complexity of flavor will make you think you are smoking a much more expensive stick.
