Brick House Maduro Robusto is the darker, spicier sister cigar to the original Brick House by JC Newman, known as one of the greatest value cigars of all time. Originally, the Brick House brand came about in the early 1900s and was named after JC Newman's childhood home in Hungary. Nearly a decade later, grandsons Eric and Bobby Newman brought back the brand, reintroducing it as an affordable, everyday stick. The original blend made Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 on two separate occasions, solidifying the brand's seemingly overnight success. Then Maduro was introduced. This blend uses the same highly-rated Nicaraguan filler and binder blend as the original, but includes a dark, oily maduro wrapper leaf. This isn't just any maduro, however. The leaf chosen for this blend is a Brazilian Arapiraca leaf, known for its robust body and bold spicy character. Brick House Maduro soon followed in the footsteps of its original counterpart, promptly earning a respectable 92 rating in Cigar Aficionado.
The packaging for Brick House Maduro is nearly identical to that of the original, save for a humble secondary band denoting the Maduro variety. Not that it needs it, however, as the dark wrapper leaf glistens with natural oils and is beautiful to behold, clearly more noticeable than the natural variant. The construction is wonderful, in typical JC Newman style. A soft, easy draw produces bountiful clouds of blue smoke, greeting the palate with enormous flavor on every puff. Bold spice is the first phase, soon followed by a creamy medley of earthy tobacco and cocoa. This builds the bulk of the flavor profile, and along the way hints of cedar and brown sugar are detectable. Medium to full-bodied, Brick House Maduro is one heck of a package to offer at this price point. The 5" x 54 Robusto is great for times you need something quick and satisfying.
This stick can be enjoyed and appreciated by just about anyone. It mixes classic maduro flavor with fine-tuned "Cigar Boom" style blending to bring about a highly satisfying concoction. Medium to full-bodied, even experienced connoisseurs will likely be impressed by the style and stature Brick House Maduro has to offer. It pairs beautifully with coffee, but if a more robust libation is desirable, we suggest stout, tawny port, or dark rum. Brazilian Maduro tobacco is all the rage these days, so if you have come to enjoy such Brazilian creations as CAO Brazilia or Bellas Artes Maduro, this blend should be right up your alley. The JC Newman Company may be known for high-end ultra-premium cigars, but Brick House Maduro Robusto is a fine example of how good a value priced cigar can be when blended by the right people.
