The Daruma is Matt Booth’s limited edition Room 101 cigar for 2012, and is bound to be a unique and surprising treat for those fortunate enough to grab them while they can. A Daruma, also called a Dharma, is a Japanese doll of luck and perseverance which are popular gifts of encouragement, and this cigar is Booth’s and co-conspirator Camacho’s gift to you. With the fierce and bearded likeness of the Daruma on the box, what better packaging for a smoke comprised of Dominican Pelo de Oro and Honduran filler, a first-for-the-brand Brazilian Mata Fina binder, and an expertly aged Habano wrapper from Ecuador.
The first impressions are of earthy black tea with a sugar cane chaser, while rich dark cocoa and black cherry rush to greet the palate as the stick slowly burns. Starting smooth and working up to a touch above medium, the Daruma is a relaxing, flavorful offering that any smoker can and should experience. Booth’s intent is for the cigar to be smoked in celebration of a worthy goal sought and attained, but we think you’ll start finding reasons to light one up rather often. You’d better get cracking though, as there were only 20,000 of each of the five vitolas created and when they’re gone, they’re gone. Make your own luck and order some today.
